Can Tattoo Person Donate Blood?

Anyone who has completed the age of 18 can potentially become a blood donor if he is willing to donate blood. According to Indian Blood Bank, there are some criteria you should fulfil to donate blood-

  1. Age of the donor should be 18.
  2. Donor’s weight should be at least 110 pounds.
  3. He is not suffering from any transmittable disease.
  4. Donor’s BP should be Diastolic 50 to 100 mm Hg and Systolic 100 to 180 mm Hg.

Can Tattoo Person Donate Blood?

  1. If you recently made a tattoo and you are willing to donate blood than you can not because by doing this you can endanger the patient who receives blood.
  2. If you recently made a tattoo then you can not donate blood for at least one year.
  3. The ink used in Tattoo making can be harmful.
  4. You can not donate blood if you have a tattoo with an unregulated facility.

A tattooed person can donate blood if and only — if their tattoo was applied by a state-regulated parlour using sterile needles and ink that has not been reused. Those who receive tattoos in a state that does not regulate tattoo parlours must wait 12 months after receiving the tattoo to present to donate blood.

Contraindications to this procedure are diseases such as syphilis, HIV, viral hepatitis, blood diseases, cancer, gastrointestinal ulcer, tuberculosis, bronchial asthma, etc. But there are also temporary contraindications for donating blood. They include a sore throat, flu, ARVI (one month after recovery), tooth extraction (plus 10 days), abortion (and 6 months after), menstruation (during and 3 days after it), pregnancy (and a year after childbirth), lactation (plus 3 months after its completion), recently made vaccinations and … the presence of fresh tattoos (up to 1 year).
