Genu Recurvatum: A knee Deformity

Genu recurvatum is also known as Knee Hyperextension or Back Knee(Knee bends in backward direction. In this deformity, excessive extension occurs in the tibiofemoral joint. Genu recurvatum occurs due to Rickets or any other disease that prevents bones from forming properly.There are three types of Genu Recurvatum :
- External Rotary Deformity Recurvatum
- Internal Rotary Deformity Recurvatum
- Non-rotary Deformity Recurvatum
Main causes of Genu Recurvatum are-
- Knee Injury
- Misalignment of ankle joint
- Knee Joint Instability
- Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tear etc.
