The Minimum Requirements for Blood Donation

Blood donation is donate blood for saving a life. We donate blood to save a life. Blood donation can save around 4.5 million lives annually. If you donate 1 pint of blood which is equal to 470 ml, that means you can save 3 lives with your blood. But there are some blood donation requirements for donating blood. According to Indian Blood Bank you can only donate blood if you fulfill following blood donation Requirements-

  • The very first requirement of blood donation is the donor must be 18–60 years old, if the donor is 17 years old then parental consent required.
  • Donor must weigh at least 110 pounds to be eligible for blood donation for his/her own safety.
  • You can donate blood if and only if you are medically fit- that means you don’t have any Cholesterol, cardiac problem, any Blood Pressure problem or any other disease.
  • Any donor, not suffering from any transmittable diseases can donate blood.
  • The minimum Hemoglobin level should be 12.5% and Pulse rate must be between 50 to 100mm without any irregularities for blood donation.
  • BP Diastolic 50 to 100 mm Hg and Systolic 100 to 180 mm Hg.
  • Body temperature should be normal and oral temperature should not exceed 37.5 degree Celsius.
